The Systems Approach

Design is a process that involves preliminary research and collaborative planning before it can begin.
Advantages:

  • work is efficiently done
  • project organization
  • better results from improved customer satisfaction 
Step 1: collect information
Interview client and use questionnaire
  • Target audience? - gender, geographic location
  • Goal of design? -sell, entertain, inform; formal/informal
  • Technical requirements? -web site, ads, flyers, cards
  • Budget?
  • Deadlines?
Step 2: Develop a plan 
-might be a written proposal, price quote, customer contract, development of design team, detailed action plan

Step 3: Brainstorm
Find inspiration:
Research similar or competing designs
Sketch it out

Step 4: Experiment
Keep original goal, but try different design options to show client

Step 5: Proofread 
Have others look at it

Step 6: Revise
Collaborate w/ client for feedback 
Revise the design over n over again according to what client wants
